Abstract: | Drawing on previous work based on the data from WERS1998 investigating the relations between different forms of employee involvement and participation (EIP) and employee outcomes, the article re-applies and extends these ideas to data set from WERS2004. The concept of institutional embeddedness is developed to argue that both the breadth and depth of EIP have significant associations with commitment though not with satisfaction. The findings indicate that in a context of lower levels of formality within organizations, line managers are the key link between HR policy and the embodiment of actual practice at the workplace. |
