Abstract: | In considering the relationship between basic scientists and research managers, both needs of the scientist and the activities of the administrator have been modelled with a view towards improving the performance of the scientists. It is hypothesized that creativity results from the scientists experiencing self-actualization needs. The potency of self-actualization needs is determined, in part, by the degree to which other needs have been satisfied. In this respect, the behavior of the research managers in helping to satisfy these needs is significant. Hypotheses are proposed as a basis for future research in testing the model. |
