| Abstract: | The author writes upon the first UK exposure draft to tackle the controversial issues in accounting for exploration and development costs in the oil industry.Attempts in the United States to regulate accounting practice in this field have shown that opinions on the issues are deeply divided and strongly defended. Developing the new exposure draft, the Oil Industry Accounting Committee took a practical approach, understanding that each of the two commonly used methods has justification but seeking to reduce different practices within each method. |
