Abstract:An exploration and illustration of the development of build-own-operate and transfer contracts in the UK. The review describes the origins and overall business of merchant banks and their role as financial advisors to those promoting projects. The need to link advice with the arrangement and provision of finance is also outlined. Contracting for the new Dartford bridge is used as the example. Two Tables and two Figures are given: key parameters for a fictitious project and a summary of the finance plan, and the internal rate of return and accumulated cash reserves.
