Abstract:A study of competition in industry, simulated with a sequential entry of firms in a differentiated industry, price equilibrium after entry and behaviour of subsequent entrants. How early entrants locate around the centre so as to dissuade later competitors from locating in between them. Location choices are also investigated as an instrument of entry deterrence. Several ranges of fixed cost are identified. The author opines that deterrence strategies ensure firms locate at regular intervals. Equations and a Table accompany the model, monopoly, duopoly and triopoly review.
