Abstract:A review of the importance of companies adopting an early warning system to enable them to anticipate changes. Such a system and its importance is assessed, together with key variables, pitfalls and problems, existing systems, and steps in designing a new system to avoid situations where bankruptcy may be a real issue. The authors advocate that an early warning system can be used to detect a variety of problems and potential opportunities while there is still time for action.
