Abstract:Remedies are suggested against unemployment in the US. The present situation is outlined. The results of two programs in Great Britain are examined, lessons are summarized. Free market policy and government intervention are compared. The possible role of tax and regulation free enterprise zones is outlined. Enterprise boards providing financing for troubled businesses are evaluated. Possible benefits of the two systems examined are listed and compared. Enterprise boards are found to work better: the cost to the government is no greater than the public cost of unemployment for one year. The situation of the US is compared with that in GB.
