Abstract:The nature of the relationship between strategic environmental appraisal and marketing strategy is discussed. An environmental model is presented and analyzed. Elements of the economic, social, technical, political, and marketing environment are described. Interrelationships are outlined. The importance of the competitive environment is emphasized. Supplier or factor environment is examined. A list is presented about the factors and variables necessary for international or country risk analysis. Organizational learning is mentioned as the origin of focusing. Strategic decision making is connected to the environmental appraisal. Problems and shortcomings are highlighted. Managerial implications are summarized.
