Abstract: | The debate over the right hardware for project management software is reviewed. Capabilities of mainframes, minis, and micros are compared. Many agree that micro-based packages strengths stem form their functionally, providing local control according to the needs of a particular business area. At the same time they are judged to be weak in graphics tasks and data manipulation. Results of PSDI with Quiknet, a micro-based package, is described. Its more advanced version, named Quiknet Professional, can be used as either a stand-alone project manager or as a distributed node on a larger system. Examples of relational data bases are mentioned. Future development requirements are summarized. |
