Abstract:An essay written 10 years ago by the author for his teenage son, when there was talk in the UK media of the need for the government to "produce" jobs by more investment, which would be inexpensive for the unemployment pay would be saved. To explain in a very simple manner to his 14 year old son, why such a course would be inappropriate, the story concerns castaways on a desert island, their occupations, incomes and trading.
