Abstract:The investment banker's role in mergers and acquisitions is described. The buyers' needs are identified and their optimal targets are determined. The steps of the necessary financial analysis are characterized. Advising for sellers is described in the similar way. The case of divestiture programs is mentioned. Other types of financial services are reviewed, too. For example "shareholder relations" programs are discussed. These programs are designed to make sure a company's stock price reflects its value, and to ward off unwanted takeovers. Services of the investment banks and those of commercial banks and independent advisors are compared.
