Abstract:Some of the arguments are viewed for and against the use of social clause. The standards suggested for inclusion are considered. Some of the instances are discussed where a social clause has been adopted and whether these ones have been provided for sanctions. The recent initiatives in the United States to link import policy with labour standards are also dealt with. Some procedural aspects are analyzed that would need to be considered to include a multilaterally operated social clause. It is presumed that it would work effectively only if it were seen as fair by all concerned - in particular by the weaker economies.
