Abstract: | The methodological and theoretical difficulties of comparative research between developed and developing countries (especially Brazil) are pointed out. Some studies are presented of the obstacles that multinational companies have encountered when transferring technology or practices having to do with the organization of work. The concept of technological determinism is discussed. The extreme determinism inherent in certain theories of development and dependence is rejected. As a conclusion it is stated that although there is no universal path towards industrialization, the number of possibilities is not infinite. |
