| Abstract: | Artificial Intelligence - a new craze in industrial companies - which exhibits all the signs of a "technology push". It is shown how expert systems can help to improve the availability of information and thus the in-company operations and processes. Information supply as an information logistics problem is characterized. The links between an expert system and the company's control system are examined. A comparison is made between the traditional data processing system and the expert system. A case example is presented to show how the knowledge base of an expert system can be used in controlling the assembly line operations. Some problems of introducing an expert system into everyday use are highlighted. |
