Abstract:There have been actual failures of projects, despite their commercial feasibility, primarily because of poor financial planning. Several critical issues are related to the expected cost of financing, and the conflicting nature of financing objectives. For project financing to be successfully achieved, several different types of risks must be properly considered, monitored and managed throughout the life of the project, which makes the design of international project-financing strategies very difficult. A goal-programming model is designed to formulate the best project-financing strategy and to support negotiations between lenders and borrowers.
