Abstract:Since the U.S.S.R. spans 11 time zones it soon realized the importance of satellite communications. The 15o operational satellites exist in a complex three-tier system. Since the first experimental communication satellite in 1964 broadcast has improved enormously reching not only 93% of its citizens but more and more Soviet bloc and third world countries too. Today 16 Molniya satellites provide vital telphone, telegraph, Tv services. Even the U.S. uses the network of Intersputnik.
