Abstract:China appears to have set itself on what may be described as an uncharacteristic course for a socialist state. The normal expectations of central planning and control are being altered through the reformist views of those currently holding dominant power. If the power pendulum is over, this trend could be reserved in short order. Otherwise it could grow in momentum. And if it goes on long enough, it could conceivably become irreversible. Management reforms are taking place; market forces are being recognized; market demand and supply are taken into account.
