Abstract:The hundreds of Japanese manufacturing plants now successfully operating in the USA confirm that their management and organization systems adapt can to America's highly individualistic society, albeit with some emerging problems. The American auto industry is attempting to adopt the Japanese management, organization, and labor systems. American employees working in Japanese transplants are suffering in the Japanese system from stress and discrimination. The transplant team organization is a powerful social control system based on peer pressure. Although "The Japanese Way" is setting new global standards in quality and productivity, it is resulting in human costs and aggressive market strategy.
