Abstract: | The human resource management strategies and practices of a major life insurance company are analyzed. The study was designed to promote a marketing-led, change-oriented culture in an industry traditionally characterized by paternalism and low levels of change. The management philosophy in organizational design is described. The approach to people management can be summarized into three points: commitment to service, demanding and caring, and positive management. It is shown what company management has made in operationalising, maintaining and adjusting to changes this approach. At last the issues of specialisation and professionalism with regards to personnel practitioners at Allied Dunbar are considered. |
