Abstract:Salary surveys are a form of market research to find the average costs for the market for labor. One of the first steps in market research is to define the problem or questions to be answered. The major purpose of such surveys is to determine whether the company pay structure is competitive with other companies in the labor market. This comparison ensures that employees, on average, are paid a fair wage. Wages should be neither too high nor too low relative to the total market. Especially in service companies, wages and salaries form a major portion of total company costs.
