Abstract:The use of advanced manufacturing technology /AMT/ has created interest in the field of how to manage such stand- alone systems. There are two main work designs: specialist control and operator control. The first issue of this study deals with the impact of the choice between these two on AMT system performance. The second issue concerns the implications of work designs for psychological well-being.
