Abstract:Stress is both an individual and a collective problem. The identification and management of stress within trade union organizations is examined. The programs which have been developed at the Stress Research and Control Centre at Birkbeck College in the UK are reviewed. Case material from two trade union projects is presented, together with an overview of some of the key areas of potential stress in such organizational settings. An approach to stress diagnosis and management is outlined. The emphasis is on the interactive processes which underpin individual and organizational existence. A number of implications for intervention strategies are considered. Some of the key points to the planning of interventions are summarized.
