| Abstract: | The European market of telecommunication equipment is an interesting example of an oligopoly in a high-tech sector and as such a good candidate for strategic trade policies. A simple conjectural variation model of oligopoly is presented. Some learning effects are incorporated into the model which allow different simulations of policies. These tend to confirm the expectations of a greater efficiency and corresponding lower prices as a result of the integration of the European market. Also the threats of a greater collusion of the European firms are revealed in the absence of a foreign "outsider". The exploratory nature of this study is emphasized and a few possible extensions are suggested. |
