Abstract: | Analysts studied in the paper persist over time in their optimism and pessimism w.r. to consensus earning forecasts, for firms of both high and low earning predictability. Individual analysts show little evidence of persistent differential forecast ability. It is concluded that observed differences in forecast accuracy depend on the interaction of optimism and pessimism with observed forecast errors. |
