Abstract:The recent decisions by Harper Collins, Random House and Penguin Books to withdraw from the Net Book Agreement ("NBA") signify the end of almost a century of resale price maintenance in the book industry in the United Kingdom. The decisions come as a blow to the Publishers' Association ("PA"), the administrators of the NBA, which has recently been engaged in a period of entrenched defence of the Agreement, before both the United Kingdom and the European Community competition authorities.
