Abstract:This paper deals with the wild bootstrap which is a technique that is robust both to heteroskedasticity and non-normality to assess the reliability of prior studies of analysts' forecasts. Using a large sample of more than 23,000 firm from 1981 to 2002, the main results the findings of prior research are confirmed. In addition, the results also suggest that deflation may not be a successful method of correcting for heteroskedasticity, providing a strong rationale for using the wild bootstrap in future work in the areas of accounting and finance research.
