Abstract:British Gas has undergone a transition from state-owned monopoly to independent public company. There is a growing pressure on the existing management structure, including the advent of competition from other gas suppliers and a tougher regulatory regime imposed by the Office of Gas Supple. The company has to grasp opportunities in gas transmission for third parties. New chairman R. Evans has restructured British Gas to make it more competitive. The new business line will devolve day-to-day operational decision-making to a lower level, improving the quality of service. Top management will concentrate on the elaboration of long-term growth strategy. The company is involved in gas and oil exploration and production.
