Abstract:Environmental audits as important corporate management tools are described. The role of professional consultants in conducting this special type of audit is emphasized. Different kinds of transactions are mentioned which necessitate environmental audits (buying a real estate for example). Environmental audits can be conducted on four levels: a superficial paper review; interviews with employees and regulatory agents; on-site observation; on-site sampling. The necessary capabilities of an auditing firm are summarized. Risks of omitting and costs of conducting of environmental audits are compared. The course of selecting a strategy for environmental audits is described.
