Abstract:This paper examines how annuities (henceforth as: anns.) should be taxed in a Mirrles-type model with the presence of adverse selection (here as: a-s.) and a positive link btw. income and longevity. The government can address the a-s. problem through implementing a progressive marginal tax rate on anns. This means subsidizing small anns. and taxing large anns. It is suggested through numerical simulations that the taxation is significant, becoming more pronounced as the annuitants are ageing.
