Abstract: | Interactions among projects can be classified into three categories: 1. resource or cost interaction, 2. outcome or technical interaction, 3. benefit or impact interaction. This third kind of interaction is examined in detail. Four types of benefit interrelationships is discussed: complementary, mutually exclusive, substitute, and prerequisite interaction. Explicit identification of such interelationships become difficult as the number of projects increase. The suggested framework utilizes the accounting relationships inherent in the impact of the projects to evaluate complex interactions. A heuristic selection rule is presented first and subsequently it is formulated as a non-linear zero-one programming problem. |
