| Abstract: | Working time has been one of the main focuses of labour market debate over the past decade. Concerns to curb excessive hours of work and to protect those engaged in shift and night work have been reflected in the EC Directive on the organisation of working time. Over the past few years, the debate has shifted to introducing more flexibility into working time organisation, and negotiating worksharing agreements aimed at creating employment. Here the authors examine the background to the debate and look at the situation in individual European countries. |
