Abstract: | The purpose of this article is to evaluate the balance between the commercial interests of broadcaster and advertiser and the interest of the viewer, as well as programme makers. While trying to maintain the traditional European broadcasting landscape, the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) aims to clarify and to simplify. The continual debate on the legislative revision has been founded in the vocabulary of consumer choice empowered by technology, which then leads to suppositions about the consumer's ablity to make choises. Such choises have been restricted by developments in the AVMSD together with developments in the broadcasting environment, and it seems probable that the customer can't choose whether to receive commercial communications or not. |
