| Abstract: | In a study it was found that top managers of some widely known international companies give high priority to the product innovation rate. Vital importance was attached to the ability of getting with new products to the markets rapidly. It is demonstrated that sequential product development is unbearable time-consuming. From 1984 on "Simultaneous Engineering" (SE), a new method of product development has gained an ever increasing acceptance. The main characteristics of SE are reviewed. Using the product life cycle model it is shown how SE can enhance productivity of development and at the same time shorten the development period. A check-list is presented as an aid for the engineering team work. The role of top management is highlighted. |
