Abstract:The author of the article states that China is more open then ever, but its transition to a market economy is still a work in progress. The paper provides the list of China top 100 companies and Company Indexes. The author states that China refers to itself as the Middle Kingdom, a realm somewhere between haven and earth. In economic terms, a similar imagery works: China is somewhere between capitalism and communism. No list of businesses in any other major economy would look remotely like this one. For a start, every China 100 company is state owned. Then there's the interesting fact that no fewer than six Sinopec subsidiaries make the cut: all are listed on various exchanges.
