Abstract:Going international needs no grand design, but neither should a company wander aimlessly into the global jungle. There are at least five reasons why the need to become global has ceased to be a discretionary option and become a strategic imperative for virtually any medium-sized to large corporation. These reasons are: (1) the growth imperative, (2) the efficiency imperative, (3) the knowledge imperative, (4) globalization of customers, and (5) globalization of competitors.
