Abstract: | Collaborations involving business, civil society and government are burgeoning in number and scale. Perhaps the most important reason for this is that organizations are finding new ways to achieve their core goals through collaborations. This explanation suggests that core competences are a major factor in growing collaborations: an organization is looking for partners who can do what it cannot, because it does not possess the critical skills and resources. Building on four examples of collaboration, this paper develops a core competence model of collaboration by identifying distinguishing attributes, strengths and weaknesses associated with the distinct logics of business, government and civil-society organisations. |
