Abstract:According to the laws of Appelation d'Origine champagne can only be produced in the Champagne region of France. The history of Champagne is discussed, marketing strategies and tactics, and principal activities of the controlling body (Comite Interprofessionel du Vin de Champagne) are examined, varieties of grapes used in the production of champagne, production, sales and export quantities, and sales made by the ten top-selling Champagne houses are presented.
