Abstract:This study argues that patent brokers don't merely stay in between supply and demand of innovation, but also play in btw. executing complex transactions and taking entrepreneurial risk. In doing so, patent brokers serve a support function to R&D managers of firms adopting various approaches to technological change. It is discussed herein how economic and sociological theories explain brokerage and its existence.
The qualitative analysis of the current practice of patent brokerage in the United States (U.S.) provides some evidence in support of the arguments. In addition, it helps in reaching a taxonomy of brokerage etc.
