Abstract: | A serious question of information systems management is what happens when end-user applications at a company overwhelm the mainframe computer. It was the case at a hospital equipment manufacturer, American Sterilizer Co where they found the alternative to mainframe operation in networked to a personal computer. PCs are now networked series of application servers that deliver the main end-user systems. Wide area connections link the networks to remote facilities. The hardware architecture of the PC network of the company is described in detail. Costs involved in setting up the network and the expected return are also considered. Conclusions of the networking are drawn. |
