Abstract:In this paper, subsidiary initiatives (herein: 's.is') are examined. 's.is' are entrepreneurial activities carried out by foreign owned subsidiaries in multinational corporations. Forces resisting them are called 'corporate immune system'. This study is based on case study analyses of 44 initiatives undertaken by Canadian subsidiary managers. The key findings include that 's.is' take two different forms, internally focused ones and externally focused ones.
