Abstract:Previous research suggests that the primary clientele served by Japanese-affiliated banking firms consists of businesses from Japan itself, USA and other foreign firms trading in Japan, and Japanese nationals residing in the USA. However, a statistically significant evidence of evolutionary changes is found in the roles performed by the USA agencies, branches, and subsidiaries of Japanese banks, with a greater emphasis being given to service sales to smaller domestic business firms and households. The net result is an ongoing shift in the sources and uses of funds by Japan's USA banking affiliates toward portfolios, which more closely mirror USA money-centerbanks.
