Abstract:This paper takes a look at the interplay between unemployment insurance and sickness insurance which are main components of Sweden's social insurance system. The specifications of these schemes provide possibilities for benefit arbitrage. Findings show that an increase in wages seems to have a different effect on the sick-report rate for unemployed people who can benefit from moving to sickness insurance, as compared to those who cannot.
