| Abstract: | This study explores the attributes of technological inventions (here as: tch-invs.) influencing their commercialization (as: cmrzn). Using a unique dataset of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) -licensed patents, it is shown that the likelihood of invention cmrzn., measured by the achievement of first sale, is positively associated with two characteristics of licensed tch-invs., that is, scope and pioneering nature, and has an inverted U-shaped relationship with the age of the invention. |
