| Abstract: | Much controversy surrounds a piece of plant closing legislation passed by the U.S. Senate in July 1987 as part of the Trade Bill. This Bill seeks to impose on employers a 60-day notice period for plant closings and mass layoffs. The consequences of advance notification are examined, and the sources of opposition are identified. |
