Abstract:A growing number of American organizations has to deal with the problems of facility shutdowns. America's manufacturing and basic industries have been hardest hit. The most common reasons of closing a facility are given. Managements show their true level of competence and concern for employees when they face the prospect of a plant closing. Selecting a new site manager will make it clear to everyone that the new individual's job is to manage the final closure of the property and that efforts to save the facility are not appropriate. Finally, some of the crucial steps in a successful shutdown are highlighted.
