| Abstract: | Companies anticipating layoffs and closings of facilities should consult three levels of advisers: legal counsel experienced with the plant closing law; public relations advisers skilled in communicating with media, the financial community, and other groups; and human resources specialists. Management has to think through the messages the company communicates to all its constituencies. Detailed execution of a plan to communicate the news, helping affected employees adjust, and alleviating negative publicity are also required. The need is to satisfy the legal, public relations, and human relations demands of the dislocation. |
