Abstract:Senior management often thinks that an information system interconnected across the entire organization is a good idea. One of the biggest problems is that most business applications have been implemented one at a time; experience with one supported the next. The necessity to tear down the whole structure and build a new one is emphasized. The elements of this new structure are identified. The requirements of making a smooth transition are summarized. The role of management's support is highlighted. Assistance, in the form of a consultant's advice and vendor's products, is available.
