| Abstract: | This editorial article and the special issue focus on the issues of context and consequences of corporate responsibility (hereafter as: CR), since CR research has not given attention to these issues even if it would be warranted. The phenomenon has mainly been studied with theories and concepts originating from USA, although norms, practices and outcomes of CR depend on sociopolitical, cultural, national and other contextual factors. This study aims to show that this practice has lead to a lack of attention to many local aspects and varieties of CR, in particular those of the emerging economies and developing countries. The article also discusses the outcomes and consequences of CR, including those that are unintended. Many positive expectations and trust placed on CR as an ideology and as an instrument for contributing to the resolution of many global and environmental ills are pointed out in the study, even though little is known about the social consequences and impacts of CR on society. |
