| Abstract: | The prospect of accession to the European Union (EU) is an important point of reference for the eastern central European countries undergoing economic and social transition. This is also true of Poland, which made a formal application for accession to the European Union as early as April 1994. and which by virtue of the size of its population alone is a particularly interesting case. While Poland's accession would bring benefits to the EU , it would also impose a significant burden. Attention is focused on ways to overcome the difficulties and to the timescale required for accession. |
