Abstract: | This paper discusses employee-owned enterprises (EOEs) in transition economies, particularly Poland and Russia. Employee buyouts have played a very important role in privatisation in these countries. Employee ownership in both countries is based on individual shareholding and should be distinguished from the notion of "worker self-management" popular in these countries in the 1980s. Under worker self-management, workers retain a voice in decisions affecting production, investment, profit sharing, wages, employment conditions, and the appointment and tenure of the managing director. |
